Girls accused of threatening Steubenville rape victim released, ordered to halt social media posts
Wed Mar 27, 2013
I'm amazed at the outrage still expressed by people here. They committed a crime, were convicted, and are now incarcerated. That's the justice system. We don't cut people's hands off for stealing, kill them for adultery, and we don't castrate them for rape. We are part of the "Civilized" world.

In reply to: Dennis-816242 #1.1 Get enough people to throw money at it, and I'm sure arrangements could be made. I would contribute $100.
Chicago closing 54 schools in face of $1 billion deficit

@Michael Mellnick Schools 20% under capacity with 30,000 teachers. Cut 20% of staff (6,000 teachers) making, as you say, $56,720/ yr and you save $340,320,000. If you can't understand a number that big, that's over $340 million.

Whoah there! What's with all the hostility? While I agree the first question is rather silly, it's definitely not grounds to start with the name calling. The second question on the other hand, is an interesting philosophical one.

Western Europe experienced a general cooling of the climate between the years 1150 and 1460 and a very cold climate between 1560 and 1850 that brought dire consequences to its peoples. The colder weather impacted agriculture, health, economics, social strife, emigration, and even art and literature …

Tears running down my face! I am laughing so hard. Litter, you gotta just be messing with SF right? I don't know what you're doing for a living, but I think Comedian should be your occupation. You are hilarious!
Poverty in America: A problem hidden 'In Plain Sight'
Mon Mar 4, 2013
There is a big problem with having a "national" poverty level. Cost of living is hugely different depending on where you live. When rent in one place costs $1000/ month and the same place is $500/ month elsewhere, that's a huge discrepency.

DrowningGrover Beware the green eyed monster.... Just because you suck at revenue generation doesn't mean you gotta hate. Look at your own skills, and put them to good use. Chip already showed math and problem solving aren't your strong suits, but you sure are good at complaining.
Why married people tend to be wealthier: It's complicated
Wed Feb 13, 2013
Two thumbs up Gary. That's spot on. And Jessica, entirely not true. There are plenty of countries who have a far majority of responsible minded citizens and do just fine. An economy functions on the principle of consumption.
